A rather fabulous and collectible piece of Wimbledon history! Dating to the 1980s (likely 1986), this vintage silver pendant was produced to commemorate the 100th staging of the Wimbledon Championships and features a wonderfully nostalgic green and purple enamel design, with crossed tennis rackets and a tennis ball at the centre surrounded by the inscription ‘THE 100th CHAMPIONSHIPS WIMBLEDON’. The octagonal pendant is suspended from an approx. 16" silver chain and makes such a characterful piece of sporting memorabilia -- perfect for a tennis lover, Wimbledon collector, silver collector or anyone looking for something a little different.
In terms of age/date of the piece: Wimbledon itself dates back to 1877 and thus would have a centenary in 1977, but interruptions during the First and Second World Wars meant that its 100th Championships were held in 1986, making this pendant a lovely surviving memento of that milestone.
